Blue Block Land (also known as Blue Square Land or Purple Land from the game's hub) is a series of builds that features the levels of the SAGE 2019 Demo in a playtesting state.
The build is important for changing the moveset and level/game design philosophy into the direction that every build forward would follow, with adjustments.
The objective of the levels has changed quite a bit. The player, as Peppino has to run though a level, as per usual. In this build, however, the task is to destroy Pillar John, the destruction of which causes Pizza Time to activate. From there, the player has to run back to the beginning of the level, find the escape gate, which has been separated from the entrance gate, and get out.
As per usual, there are points to collect and enemies to kill. There are five Toppins the player can collect, and the Tower Secret Treasure they can find, worth 1000 points each. Depending on the amount of points, the player receives different ranks, which they can see when ending the level.
Levels
The Blue Block Land series had each build (not including patches) introduce a new level.
There are a total of four versions, compiled between July 3rd and 29th, 2019. Each of them, excluding ver. 21, introduce a new level, as well as new or old, reworked mechanics.
This version introduces two new levels, an early, short version of Entrance (titled Tutorial), and Medieval.
Combat has been changed significantly, as now upon pressing , Peppino will punch the enemy, knocking it back a bit. Once the enemy is on its last hit point, Peppino can grab it and finish it off. As well as that, ground pounding can only bring an enemy down to one hit point, but not kill them.
Peppino's abilities have been tweaked:
While wallrunning, Peppino can't jump off walls whatsoever.
Superjump cancel and taunting have been removed.
It's no longer possible to break metal blocks while rolling.
Bugs and mistakes
Breaking blocks
Breaking metal blocks, as well as big breakable blocks at Mach 2, causes Peppino to lose all momentum.
Secret breakable blocks' visibility
While textures for breakable blocks that cover up secrets exist, the object is set to be invisible, which can confuse the player.
Pillar John's animations
Pillar John's animations are faster than normal.
Pepperoni Goblins' stunned animation
Pepperoni Goblins, when stunned, flash white. They're the only enemies that have that peculiarity with their animation.
Peppino's moveset has been restored to its previous state, meaning that jumping off walls, cancelling the superjump and taunting is now possible again.
However, cancelling the superjump is done by pressing now. Before, it was .
Taunting is possible only while running at Mach 2 or above.
As well as that, an early ability to dive was implemented. Peppino can now "dive" midair, by rolling.
A brand new level, Ruin, was added, and together with it came mechanics last seen in the Halloween Demo and Demo 2 builds.
The first mechanic is the shotgun, which had its ammo reworked once again. It's limited, but the player can collect ammo boxes to get more bullets. These ammo crates are hidden in secret rooms, and grant five bullets per crate. Peppino can shoot by the player pressing , or holster or draw the shotgun with . When attempting to shoot midair, Peppino will shoot beneath himself. This particular move isn't long to stay, however.
The next mechanic is the Bomb transformation, together with the enemy that grants it, the Pizza Box Goblin, and the Bomb Blocks.
Last, but not least, is the ability to activate the Ball transformation by ducking on a slope.
With the addition of Ruin, Pencers mark their debut.
Bugs and fixes
Inaccessible Medieval
The door to Medieval has no code, causing the game to crash when attempting to play the level.
Breaking blocks fix
Peppino will no longer lose momentum when breaking metal or breakable blocks.
Secret breakable blocks fix
Breakable blocks that cover secrets had their blue graphic remade to be pink, and were made visible.
Ranking questions
Although it is possible to get different ranks on every level, each one except Entrance has a texture on the entrance gate saying that there are no rankings yet, and no signpost for these levels will appear once they are complete.
This revision is a quick fix to restore Medieval. Nothing more, nothing less.
This version adds the last level of this series, Dungeon. Together with it comes the Fireass transformation, the Boiling Sauce gimmick, and the rework of wallclimbing. Not mentioned in the hub, however the new level opens the debut of the Flying Anchovy, as well as the return of Pizza Cutters.
However, the first change the player will immediately notice is the switch of the color palette. Now, almost every texture has been modified to be purple instead of blue, and platforms have received a unique texture in the form of a purple creature holding objects up.
Back to Peppino. Although the main focus was to change wallrunning, his moveset has received changes outside of it too.
Rolling
Peppino is now able to roll at Mach 2 as well as Mach 3, with the same abilities. However, rolling will always force him into Mach 2 now.
Grab
Now, Peppino is able to grab enemies right off the bat once again instead of having to punch them before. After throwing an enemy, it instantly dies.
He can also grab enemies while running at Mach 2. He will tackle them and shoulder bash them upon impact with any surface, be it a wall or a block. Peppino can kill most enemies on his way, and can destroy breakable blocks upon impact.
Wallrunning
Peppino is able to wallrun indefinitely and even walljump. However, walljumping will slow him down.
Some transformations have also received some work. Now, while in the Ball form, Peppino is no longer invincible.
As for the Shotgun transformation, shooting has been bound to the button separate from grab — , and now he can holster the shotgun by grabbing. Peppino also no longer shoots down while midair.
Bugs and fixes
Hurtboxes
While not exactly an oversight, most hurtboxes have been made visible for playtesting purposes.
Enemy in a crevice softlock
It is possible to softlock Peppino in place by bringing an enemy into a crevice, for example the Pineapple Toppin collection spot, and making him bump into it. This will make him stuck while the enemy bounces between him and the wall indefinitely, creating a cacophony of bumping sounds. This can be cured by picking the enemy up or walking out of the enemy, although this may take a long time.

The grab sound effect has been replaced with The Noise's iconic voiceline.
Versions 1 and 2 have Blue Blocks, hence the name, but in Version 3, for an unknown reason, the Blue Blocks were replaced with Purple Squares. The cover for Bloodsauce Dungeon and the build were colored Purple to show when they were added.
