From Pizza Tower Wiki

Before developing Pizza Tower, McPig has worked on many other games. The genre, the gameplay, and even the style of sprites varies in each one of them.

Weenie Cop

Weenie Cop, also known as Weiners Don't Use Drugs, is an action-platformer game, starring Peter and Mac as main protagonists.

Visual art style

The visual art style doesn't look very different from Pizza Tower, besides it using colored outlines, not using a Game Boy Color Wario Land 2's color palette, animations being slower and sprites themselves being smaller, due the game being 4:3, instead of 16:9.

Gameplay

The gameplay was mostly inspired by Jazz Jackrabbit games. Pete and Mac's moveset are the same, with their differences only being aesthetic.

The moveset is mostly based on attacking, shooting and dashing. It's also possible to buy upgrades from the shopkeeper to upgrade the attack moves paying with toes and foot collectibles. The player can also collect hot peppers to charge the super move, depending on which attack the player will use, Peter or Mac will either shoot with a giant bullet that shatters into smaller ones or perform a big series of punches for a bit. It's also possible to perform wall jump by jumping into the wall then pressing the jump button again to jump away from it.

The enemies on first two levels are the variations of french fries, wearing black jackets and having different types of sauce as their hair. By modifying the game, it's also possible to see other type of enemies - burgers wearing black bandanas, like stereotypical burglars.

There are only two bosses - tutorial boss, which doesn't attack and can be defeated in one hit, and fryboys boss, being able to throw bombs and summon french fries enemies. The way to defeat him was to deflect the bomb with melee attacks, so it would go back at him, causing him to take damage. Also, he would be able to sometimes deflect the bomb back at the player. Though, the boss fight doesn't work as intended, as deflecting bombs back at the boss doesn't do anything, which makes the fight impossible.

Music

During development of the game, Weenie Cop did not have a original soundtrack. Instead, it used tracks, taken from various sources as just placeholders. Though, due to a few bugs, they don't play in the game itself.

Trivia

  • Several Assets and mechanics from this game later re-appeared again in Pizza Tower after Weenie Cop's cancellation, those being:
    • Breakable Block's sprite was completely reused but with most of the palette changed to fit the game.
    • Peter's design was reused for the Weenie.
    • Hair Fry's behavior was reused for the Spit Cheese.
    • Dash and pistol were reused as a main mechanic and a weapon, respectively.
    • The mechanic of purchasing upgrades for coins was reused for Pay Blocks.
    • Slopes' mechanic was reused for the Ladders.
    • Falling platform's mechanic was reused for the Cheese Block.
    • Spring's mechanic was reused for the Tomato Block.
    • Tip jar's mechanic was reused for the Pizza TV.
  • Originally, Peter and Mac were supposed to have the super jump move, but due to a bug in the code for it, it's broken in-game.
  • Originally, Weenie Cop was not available for anyone to download, but some time later McPig decided to post the link to download the game in Pizza Tower Discord, and later on fully available to public via Itch.io.
  • The development of the game was documented in McPig's Tumblr page [1].

Pizza Massacre

Pizza Massacre is a 2D Resident Evil-like game, starring Peppino.

Visual art style

The visual style, unlike Pizza Tower, is more grim and scary, with Peppino appearing slightly more realistic.

Gameplay

The game was supposed to be side-scroller with the need to find weapons to kill enemies. Only one video of gameplay exists [2], showcasing the buzz saw weapon.

Trivia

  • Development of the game was cancelled due to the time consuming nature of making big sprites and McPig only liking the buzz saw dash attack[3].
    • McPig would later decide to use the idea of the buzz saw dash attack to emulate the Wario Land 4 engine, and simplify the sprites. Thus, the development of Pizza Tower started.
  • Some of the sprites were posted by McPig on his Tumblr page and then later in the Pizza Tower Discord.

Pizza Horror

Pizza Horror is a RPG-like game, made in RPG Maker and inspired by Earthbound.

Visual art style

The visual style here is pretty much the same as for Pizza Massacre.

Gameplay

The gameplay was supposed to be similar to Earthbound, except with more interactions in the overworld map and having 2D sections, similar to LISA, in-between.

Miscellaneous

Trivia

  • The reason of cancellation of development of the game was due to RPG Maker's limitations in 2D sprites.
    • The idea of the 2D sections was later implemented in Pizza Massacre.
  • The sprites were posted by McPig in Pizza Tower Discord.

Monkey game

Monkey game is an arcade-like game about monkeys stealing treasures and escaping from four hunters.

Visual art style

The visual art style is heavily different from any other McPig's games, being more simplistic and inspired by old NES games.

Gameplay

No footage of the game has been provided, although McPig has described how it would play.

"it was an arcade like game where you play as a monkey stealing treasure and you have to avoid 4 hunters

brandon, rambo, the gun guy and the dog

and they would all have their own behavior"
— Pizza Tower Guy.

Clown game

Clown game is an RPG Maker game that was developed during the development of Pizza Tower. Not much known about it, since only some concept art and a video of a test build [4] exist.

Visual art style

The art style displayed in the test footage is similar to Pizza Tower's art style, though some test sprites show the characters drawn in a lineless style.

Gameplay

Originally, the game was planned to be an RPG until McPig decided to make it a puzzle game instead[5]. The player would control and switch between 3 characters (Whiteface, August, and Tramp) that had their own separate abilities.

Trivia

  • The music used in the gameplay video is "La donna è una cosa meravigliosa (M4)"[6] (translated: "Woman Is a Wonderful Thing"), from a 1964 Italian comedy film of the same name
