Ranks are a central gameplay mechanic in Pizza Tower.

Upon successful completion of a stage, the player is awarded a rank based on their overall performance in the level. The final rank depends on the amount of points collected in the level, with the amount needed for each rank depending on the specific level being played. Every level is assigned a set amount of points required to obtain its S-rank, with each successive rank cutting the previous rank's requirement in half. The P-rank is the only exception to this.

Up to 32% Tower Status can be gained from getting better ranks on various levels. Getting P-ranks on all levels and completing every chef task grants an additional 1%.

Ranks

D-Rank

D-ranks are usually given out when the player completes the stage with hardly any points (any score beneath a C-rank), or when defeating a boss stage having taken 9 or more hits.

Peppino sarcastically congratulates the player with a fake smile and says "Good job! That was awful!". A big, black letter D appears. The word "AWFUL" is seen below. The end of the rank music is played by a distorted and out of key trumpet, before ending on a cowbell instead of a drum.

The Noise shows a demonic expression, with the text bubble showing gibberish. The paper with the text is badly torn and scribbled all over, and the text itself says "DIE".

C-Rank

C-ranks are usually given out when the player completes a stage with a mediocre amount of points (1/8 of the S-rank requirement), or when defeating a boss stage having taken 7 or 8 hits.

Peppino glances off slightly to the screen's right, looking exhausted, and says "That was bad." A big, green letter C appears. The word "BAD" is seen below. The end of the rank music is a single note played by an organ.

The Noise looks at the player with an angry expression. The paper with the text has a drawing of a poop and the text says "CRAP".

B-Rank

B-ranks are usually given out when the player completes the stage with a decent amount of points (1/4 of the S-rank requirement), but not enough for an A-Rank, or when defeating a boss stage having taken 5 or 6 hits.

This rank is about average, usually obtainable by picking up a good amount of the trivial point sources throughout any level.

Peppino says "Oh! OK!" with a surprised face. A big, blue letter B appears. The word "OK" is seen below. The end of the rank music is the same as the C rank.

The Noise looks disappointed and says "Eh...". The paper has "BAD. Do Better!!!!!" text on it.

A-Rank

A-ranks are usually given out when the player completes the stage with a high amount of points (1/2 of the S-rank requirement), or when defeating a boss stage having taken either 3 or 4 hits.

Peppino looks into the screen happily, shows a thumbs up, and says "Very nice!". A big, red letter A appears. The word "NICE!" is seen below. The end of the rank music is similar to C/B rank, now with an electric guitar accompanying it.

The Noise looks into the screen with a smug expression and says "I'd prefer an S or a P...". The text on the paper says "Acceptable".

S-Rank

S-ranks are given out when the player gets nearly every source of points in the level, or when defeating a boss stage having taken either 1 or 2 hits.

Peppino raises his arms and presumably yells out of joy. A big, golden letter S appears. The word "PERFECT" is seen below. The end of the rank music is similar to the A Rank, but now with a trumpet accompanying it.

The Noise looks at the rank with an amazed expression. The text is exactly the same as on Peppino's S rank animation.

P-Rank

The P-rank is unique, as it is the only rank in the game which depends on factors other than the Pizza Points collected throughout a level. In boss stages, it's obtainable by simply defeating the boss without taking a single hit for the entire fight.

In order to obtain a P-rank in a regular level, the player must fulfill each of these requirements within the same run before exiting the level:

  • Start a combo before leaving the first room, never allowing it to break for the entire level.
  • Obtain enough points for an S-rank.
  • Find all 3 secrets.
  • Collect the Tower Secret Treasure.
  • Complete Lap 2.

The Toppins are not strictly required, but it is recommended to obtain all 5 of them for an extra 5000 points. If a level does not contain the items necessary for the last 3 requirements (such as The Crumbling Tower of Pizza), they are skipped. As a result, the level only requires an unbroken combo and enough score for an S-rank in order to finish with a P-rank.

Peppino, rather than coming in from the left, slides in through the right with an evil look, does a flourish at the player with victorious rage, slides from the left back to the center, and strikes a pose as a deep purple background of the top of some form of fortress, shocked-looking enemies, and a huge, white letter P cracks into view. The rank music is drastically different, being played by an electric guitar throughout.

The Noise is shown from different perspectives as the stage light changes, before focusing on him in the center, where he shows a V sign in the air. After a while, he falls off the rope he was held with. The background is a deep purple stage, with a huge P in the center.

Scrapped Ranks

Eggplant Rank

This rank was exclusive for the Eggplant build, acting as a placeholder for the upcoming ranks which values were yet to be determined.

Peppino is in the same disgruntled pose as he is in his D rank screen, but with the "Good job! That was..." quote removed. It only has a drawing of an eggplant and text below saying "RANKS YET TO BE SET!"

W Rank

This rank was exclusive to certain older builds. To obtain it, the player must start a combo before leaving the first room, never allowing it to break for the entire level, as well as gaining enough points to qualify for an S rank.

The stipulations are very similar to that of the P rank in the final game, although omitting certain requirements such as performing a Lap 2 or obtaining the Tower Secret Treasure, and it is likely that the W rank inspired the P rank.

Trivia

This section is dedicated to trivia and miscellaneous information about Ranks.
Remember to read the wiki's trivia guidelines before adding trivia or making changes.
  • In the SAGE 2019 Demo, Snick does not get any ranks, possibly because of losing all points upon getting hurt. Instead, he's just brought straight back to the hub after beating the level.
  • While The Vigilante was playable, he used The Noise's rank screens as a placeholder.
  • In the October 2022 build, the P-rank was obtained by getting a score higher than the score required for an S-rank.
  • A concept similar to the P-Rank that came before it was the W-Rank. According to PTG, it would've been the same as or similar to S-Rank but with a combo maintained for the entire level, just like one of the P-Rank requirements.
  • In the Eggplant build, because the rank score requirements weren't set for all the levels yet, a special "Eggplant" rank was always given when completing a level (regardless of score), which is identical to the D-rank screen, but Peppino is instead seen presenting an eggplant with the text "RANKS YET TO BE SET!".
  • The pose that Peppino strikes on receiving a P-rank is known as a "gesto dell'ombrello" — a rude Italian gesture that is equivalent to flipping the bird.
  • The final boss is the only level in the game that does not give a rank, while The Crumbling Tower of Pizza only shows the rank if entered by the portal and not through defeating Pizzaface.
  • Ranks existed as early as Early Test Build.
    • In Early Test Build, when completing the level and getting a rank, the game does not automatically do anything, meaning the player will have to manually quit or restart.
    • The P-rank, however, has been added in the October 2022 build, which was released 4 years later.
  • In Halloween Demo, there were extra conditions required in order to obtain the S-Rank:
    • A-Rank must be obtained;
    • The player can't take more than 3 hits of damage;
    • Tower Secret Treasure needs to be collected;
    • The player must beat the level in less than 10 minutes and escape in less than 2.
