Blocks
Name | Behavior | First seen | First demo appearance |
Picture | Notes |
---|---|---|---|---|---|
Breakable Block | Comes in two variants: small and large.
Small: Breaks via any kind of attack. Large: Causes the player to take recoil if under Mach 2. |
Tutorial | Demo 0 | Purple versions of both forms exist, showing up during the escape. Pink with a question mark appear only in secret rooms and regenerate upon leaving the room. | |
Breakable Door | A fragile door. Anything will break it, except if the player is walking into it or is at Mach 1. | Tutorial | Demo 0 | ||
Metal Block | Can only be broken if they're run into at Mach 3 or higher, or by ground pounding them from a tall enough height. The Vigilante can't break them with Mach 3, so instead he has to use his dynamite. | Tutorial | Demo 0 | Purple versions of both forms exist, showing up during the escape.
The super jump used to be able to break them, but this was removed. It is the only escape version of a block that isnt available in the latest version of the level editor. | |
Box of Pizzas | A transport from one room to another. | Tutorial | SAGE 2019 Demo | These are based off of the pipes from the Wario Land series. | |
Pizza Block | Comes in two variants: small and large.
Small: Contains a Topping, awarding 10 points. Large: Contains 2 Pizza Slices, each awarding 25 points. After being destroyed drops pepperoni or cheese debris. |
Entrance | Demo 0 | Purple versions of both forms exist, showing up during the escape. The debris was originally collected by Gerome in the unfinished different combo system for the W rank, before it was scrapped. | |
Ladder | A ladder that can be climbed. | Entrance | Demo 0 | ||
Fake Wall | Take on the appearance of a wall, but can be destroyed. | Entrance | Demo 0 | Can either act like a Breakable Block (both sizes) or a Metal Block. | |
Banana Peel | Causes the player to uncontrollably slip for a bit. Dropped by Swedish Monkeys. | Entrance | Preearlytestbuild | ||
John Block | Switches states during Pizza Time (i.e. off turns on, on turns off).
In Demo 0, the blocks were simply defeated when the escape started. |
Entrance | Demo 0 | These act the same as the Frog Blocks from Wario Land 4.
In Demo 0, they had a different look, appearing more like a Weenie block. They were given their final design in GOLF. | |
Super Side Spring | Bounces the player horizontally in the direction it's facing, turning the player around if they are travelling fastly towards it. | Pizzascape | Demo 1 | There are unused vertical versions that immediately send the player into a Super Jump on touch. | |
Stairs | A slope that transforms the player into their Ball form if they press down on it. | Pizzascape | Demo 1 | These can also take the form of slopes. | |
Bomb Block | Can only be destroyed by a bomb explosion. | The Ancient Cheese | Demo 1 | ||
Cheese Block | Dissolves shortly after being stood on, reappearing shortly after. | The Ancient Cheese | Patreon Builds | According to PTG, when they dissolve, they're moved far away from the playable area until they reappear. | |
Outlet | Hurts the player and enemies on touch. | Bloodsauce Dungeon | Demo 2 | These took on the appearance of spike blocks in some early demos.
They could be destroyed by Barrel transformations, as shown in gameplay video by PTG, but that was cut in the build. | |
One Way Breakable Block | Only large versions exist. Can only be destroyed from the side where the bandage is. | Oregano Desert | February 2020 Patreon Build | ||
Rock Block | A cluster of rocks. It can only be destroyed by a TNT Block or Destructible Rock Block. | Oregano Desert | Patreon Builds | A chain reaction can happen with more than one Rock Block. | |
Destructible Rock Block | Broken variation of Rock Block that can be destroyed by any way. | Oregano Desert | April 2021 Build | The fuction originates from second TNT Block's effect. | |
TNT Block | A highly explosive block of gunpowder. They can be destroyed only by Firemouth transformation. | Oregano Desert | Patreon Builds | Originally they had current effect, but for a while could be destroyed any way. Previous effect was given to Destructible Rock Block. | |
Target Block | Can only be destroyed by shooting it with a shotgun, in the case for The Noise, a chaingun, and for the Vigilante, a pistol. | The Wasteyard | February 2020 Patreon Demo | This block originally had the same function as the Enemy Blocks. | |
Mort Cube | Can only be destroyed by the Mort transformation. | Fun Farm | Western Build V1 | The sprite for this block was made by Strawberry Octopuss, the creator of Memoirs of Magic. | |
Flying Ladder | A ladder with a propeller on top that flies upward when climbed. | Fun Farm | Western Build V1 | When reaching a certain point, the ladder breaks and respawns. Before then, it will start to blink.
These were once hooks, but PTG changed it as flying ladders were easier to code in. | |
Haybale | Catches on fire if bumped by a provoked Peasanto, shot by a fireball using Firemouth, or landed on by a player during Firebutt. Once on fire, causes Firebutt on touch. | Fun Farm | Western Build V1 | ||
Enemy Block | A block with the outline of a Cheeseslime painted on it, signifying that it can only be destroyed if an enemy is thrown at it, or Greaseball is shot at it. | Space Pinball | Western Build V1 | Note that any enemy thrown at it will break it. | |
Tomato Block | Acts like a spring, bouncing the player upward. | Space Pinball | Patreon Builds | These were once going to first appear in Sewer.
The player could originally hold down the jump button on them to bounce higher. | |
Barrel Block | Can only be destroyed by the Barrel transformation. | Pineapple Beach | BeachandForestv1 | ||
Ball Block | Can only be destroyed by the Ball transformation. | Kung Fu | April 2021 Build | ||
Present | Forcefully launches the player and certain enemies upward. | Kung Fu | April 2021 Build | This acts near identically to an unused object called the Super Spring. | |
Nerd Block | Can only be destroyed if Greaseball gets into a goal within the same room. | Golf | GOLF | ||
Switch Block | Switches states upon the player interacting with a dedicated Switch. | Space | April 2021 Build | During development, John Blocks were used as visual placeholders. | |
Super Metal Block | Can only be destroyed by the Knight or Rocket transformation. | Space | April 2021 Build | ||
Cheeseball Block | Can only be destroyed by the Cheeseball transformation | Sewer | Patreon Builds | ||
Conveyor Belt | Pushes the player away in a certain horizontal direction depending on the color of the conveyor belt. | Factory | Demo 2 | Sideways versions also exist that can be stuck onto using the Sticky Cheese transformation. | |
Grind Rail | Essentially semi-solid Ice Blocks then also allow the player to jump while sliding. Can come in slopes. | Mansion | Patreon Builds | A player in the Knight transformation will phase through these. | |
Ice Block | Slips the player forward if landed on. Big variant can be melted with any type of fire. Small variant melts as the temperature goes up. | Freezer | Peppino's Xmas Break | Originally small ones were vunerable to fire, but later they became its own object, making big variant replace them. | |
Destructable John Block | A block that, when destroyed, spawns a Mushroom Ghost which charges at the player before disappearing. | City | April 2021 Build Hotfix | Despite it's name and appearance, this block isn't affected when Pillar John is defeated. |
Assets
Name | Behavior | First seen | First demo appearance |
Picture | Notes |
---|---|---|---|---|---|
Door | A pathway from one room to another. | Tutorial | Preearlytestbuild | ||
Enemy Spawner | Infinitely spawns certain enemies or projectiles one after the other. Mostly used for situations where a certain enemy or projectile is absolutely required to pass. | Tutorial | Demo 1 | There's an unused aggressive red version, which would have likely spawned enemies much faster or spawn more than one enemy at a time. | |
Pizza Box | Gives a Toppin when opened. | Entrance | Preearlytestbuild | | Originally just gave Complete Pizzas, worth 100 Pizza Points. |
Key Door | A pathway from one room to another locked by a key found elsewhere. | Pizzascape | Preearlytestbuild | ||
Sword Stone | Activates the Knight transformation. | Pizzascape | Preearlytestbuild | ||
Pizza Cutter | Constantly spins from a set point, hurting the player on contact | Bloodsauce Dungeon | Demo 1 | ||
Boiling Sauce | Activates the Firebutt transformation. | Bloodsauce Dungeon | SAGE 2019 Demo | ||
Free Milk Stand | Ends the Firemouth transformation. | Oregano Desert | desert_playtest | ||
Pizzamart | Acts as an enterable building. | Oregano Desert | SAGE 2019 Demo | In the SAGE 2019 Demo, there was a Pizzamart found in each level. Each of them held two Pay Blocks allowing the player to purchase two shotguns for four Pizza Coins each. This was scrapped along with Pizza Coins, though Pizzamart was eventually moved as a setpiece in Oregano Desert. | |
Metal Detector | Removes the player's shotgun when passed through. | The Wasteyard | Westernbuildv1 | ||
Cheese Grater | A wall that can only be passed through by the Ghost transformation | The Wasteyard | Westernbuildv1 | ||
Tombstone | Ends the Ghost transformation. | The Wasteyard | Westernbuildv1 | Can be grabbed and thrown, often used for puzzles. Has a brown variant that cannot be thrown. | |
Well | Activates the Mort transformation. | Fun Farm | Westernbuildv1 | Mort jumping from the Well is a reference to how he starts every level in his game. | |
Teleporter Pizza | Teleports the player to its dedicated Teleporter Machine. | Space Pinball | Westernbuildv1 | ||
Timed Gate | A harmful gate that only opens up when a Time Button is pressed, closing up again when the timer is up. | Space Pinball | Westernbuildv1 | ||
Goblinbot | A robotic version of the Pepperoni Goblin that, when touched, launches the player in their Ball form in the direction it's facing. | Space Pinball | Westernbuildv1 | ||
Balloon | Bounces the player upward on contact, popping it before a bit for it reappears. | Pineapple Beach | BeachandForestv1 | ||
Dash Pad | A pad that makes the player instantly reach Mach 3 after walking on it. | Pineapple Beach | Demo 1 | ||
Water | Works near identically to Boiling Sauce, but it does not have any fire-related properties and can be dashed on if the player is at Mach 3 or higher. Small sources of water work differently, removing any transformation the player is currently under the influence of. | Pineapple Beach | BeachandForestv1 | In the very first builds, the player could actually swim inside water.
The reason that the player quickly jumps up into the air upon touching the water at Mach 2 or lower is because a Piraneapple attempts to bite them, which can be seen jumping out. | |
Water Currents | Push the player in one direction uncontrollably. | Pineapple Beach | BeachandForestv1 | ||
Cannon Goblinbot | A robotic version of the Cannon Pizza Goblin that automatically shoots bombs forward at intervals. | Pineapple Beach | BeachandForestv1 | ||
Big Mushroom | Bounces the player high into the air. | Gnome Forest | BeachandForestv1 | ||
Taxi | Entering it will bring the player back to its matching Stop Sign. | Gnome Forest | Peppino's Xmas Break | In earlier builds, it worked the same as a Teleporter Pizza, sending the player back to a point in the same room. It is now used to teleport through multiple rooms. | |
Purple Trash Pan | Invincible version of the Trash Pan. It infinitely launches cheeseballs that activate the Cheeseball transformation. | Sewer | Patreon Builds | ||
Sewer Pipes | Going inside pipes makes the player travel across them. | Sewer | April 2021 Build | ||
Cheese Blob Maker | Infinitely drops cheese blobs that activate the Sticky Cheese transformation. | Factory | Demo 2 | ||
Clown tent | Starts Clown transformation. | Mansion | April 2021 Build | ||
Bowling Ball | Stuns the player for a short bit if it falls on top of them during Cheese Dragon boss fights. | Dragon Lair | Demo 1 | These once hanged in place before dropping down on the player when they got too close. | |
Taunt Ramp | When ran off of, causes a taunt counter to appear above the player's head. While airborne, taunting causes this counter to go up by 1, though it doesn't do anything else. The counter disappears when you hit the ground. | City | April 2021 Hotfix |
Currently Unused
This is a list of all the unused blocks. Note that some will be used in the future, but for now they're unused. This also doesn't count restored levels. These are unused in the current vanilla demo.
Name | Behavior | First seen | First demo appearance | Picture | Notes |
---|---|---|---|---|---|
Super Spring | Sends the player into a super jump when touched. | Ancient | Demo 1 | Was reused as Present. | |
Boulder | Falls down once the player steps under it before rolling in one direction, squishing the player and sending them through semisolid platforms below. | Oregano Desert | desert_playtest | These once only started rolling during the escape, and had Noise Dynamites appear next to them. Were replaced by Meatball Boulders. | |
Corn | Ends the Mort transformation. Acts as a physical barrier before Mort pecks at it. | Fun Farm | Westernbuildv1 | Was meant to be in, but was removed due rehaul of Mort transformation. | |
Skateboard | Continuously pushes the player forward, simply turning around at walls. Can only be stopped by taking damage. | Mansion | Preearlytestbuild | Was meant to be in, but was replaced by Clown transformation. | |
Pepper Pizza | When consumed by the player, they will have the ability to immediately reach Mach 4 the moment they dash. | Space | April 2021 Build | Was meant to be in, but was replaced by Rocket transformation. | |
obj_spring | A 1 tile block that sends the player upward. | None | Preearlytestbuild | A very early version of the Super Spring or Tomato block object. | |
Spike | An early version of the Outlet, hurting the player on contact. | Ancient | Demo 0 | The Outlet is known as "obj_spike" in the files, confirming that this is an early version of it. | |
Glass Case | A case for Tower Secret Treasures that would initiate the escape sequence before Pillar John was created. | Ancient | Demo 0 | ||
Pay Block | Allows the player to pay Pizza Coins for a shotgun. | Pizzascape (older builds) | Demo 1 | These were scrapped due to Pizza Coins being scrapped as well. | |
Washing Machine | Used by The Noise in earlier builds to destroy Metal Blocks, as he couldn't gain enough speed normally to break them. | Freezer (older builds) | Patreon Builds | The washing machine was also going to be used as a grappling hook for The Noise, but this was scrapped. | |
Falling Debris | Works the same as Bowling Ball, except appears only during Pizza Time. | The Ancient Cheese | SAGE 2019 Demo v10 | Was used only in SAGE 2019 Demo v10 and nowhere else. | |
Snowman Block | A block that resets the entire level if touched. | Christmas Race Build level | Christmas Race Build | | Joke block that wasn't meant to be in the game. |
Checkpoint | Saves progress if the player so happens to fail Pizza Time or an enemy gauntlet. | Entrance | BeachandForestv1 | Was used for one build and then removed due being useless, as failing Pizza Time resets the amount of toppins the player has and timers for enemy gauntlets were removed too. | |
Breakable Tv | A tv that contains 2 pizza slices, can only be destroyed by a grab | Oregano Desert | Patreon Builds | ||
Pepper Block | Can only be destroyed by Pepperman's shoulder dash. | TBA | SAGE 2019 Demo | Was originally going to appear in a Pepperman boss fight in Mansion. It is currently unknown where it will appear (if it will appear at all). |
Trivia
- The large pizza block didn't hold pizza slices, but instead complete pizzas up until the SAGE 2019 demo. This was changed when the health bar was scrapped, as the pizza slices once acted as health pick-ups.
- The John blocks had a much different look in Demo 0, being themed after a Weenie instead of Pillar John.
- If the player were to look into the files of game, it's revealed that the outlet's filename in the "Game Objects" tab is obj_spike, likely meaning that the spike's graphics were replaced by the outlets, but the filename wasn't changed.
