Toppins are small pizza topping-shaped creatures. There are five different kinds of Toppins, each being based off of a different pizza topping; Mushroom Toppins, Cheese Toppins, Tomato Toppins, Sausage Toppins, and Pineapple Toppins. They each have unique designs, as well:
The Mushroom Toppin is a brown mushroom with exaggerated, googly eyes.
The Cheese Toppin is a block of cheese with eyes on top and no legs, unlike the others. The Cheese Toppin has a mouth which can be seen by taunting.
The Tomato Toppin is a tomato with a big red nose (akin to that of a clown), tired eyes and green shoes.
The Sausage Toppin is a brown sausage with a resting grumpy face and a unibrow.
The Pineapple Toppin is a pineapple with black sunglasses and white shoes. It is also one of the Toppins which have a mouth, which can only be seen while taunting (akin to the Cheese Toppin).
Behavior
Toppins can be found trapped in cages throughout the levels. Upon saving a Toppin, the player is given 1000 points. After being saved, they will follow behind the player until the end of the level. Each Toppin will taunt alongside the player.
Toppins are counted as a collectible, and will run around the level's gate if the player beats the level with them. They will also be seen during the rank screen. When collected for the first time, each Toppin contributes 10 dollars to the player's savings. This money needs to be paid to Mr. Stick to enter boss fights. There are 95 Toppins in total, but only 86 of them are needed to beat the game.

Out of all Toppins after their redesign, the Mushroom Toppin has the one that least changed in design.
In one of their taunts, they turn into their old design.
The Cheese Toppin, while not based on an enemy, has a taunt based on the Cheeseslime.
Their internal filename is "pizzakin", referencing their prototype name.
The Cheese Toppin had two holes and legs in older versions.
The Pineapple Toppin lacked sunglasses in older versions.
The Toppins are most likely inspired by the Spritelings from Wario World.
All of the Pineapple Toppin's taunts are based off of scrapped ideas or concept art.
Its taunt where is wears purple, star-shaped sunglasses is a reference to concept art in which a Pineacool can be seen wearing these same shades.
Its taunt where it is riding a jetsurf is another reference to concept art of the Pineacool, this time it is riding on the same jetsurf.
It's taunt where it looks at the camera and gives a large, menacing grin is a reference to a cut mechanic where the Pineapple Toppin would become the Pineapple Toppin Monster. This animation would play shortly before it does just that.
