Rooms

Ruins of the Pizza Tower

A large ruined room with sets of Stairs on either side of the entering door. A sign labelled with a key points right to a Forknight trapped between two large Breakable Blocks under two Cheese Block platforms holding a Complete Pizza each. A sign labelled with a lock points left at a Metal Block leading to a Pepperoni Goblin and a Complete Pizza past a Cheese Block platform. It's entered from "Meet the Bomb Goblin" at the top right through a narrow hallway, the entrance to "Ruined Exploration" is found at the bottom right, and the entrance to "Boring Ruin" is found to the left. During Pizza Time, the path to "Ruined Exploration" is blocked off by some activating John Blocks.

Ruined Exploration

A large room with two Forknights, a few small Pizza Blocks, and a Pepperoni Goblin under a long line of Cheese Blocks up a Ladder. At the end of this long line is another Ladder, this one leading to a Metal Block opposite of four Cheese Block platforms leading up to another Forknight trapped with a large Breakable Block. The player is encouraged to use these Cheese Block platforms to generate enough speed for Mach 3 to break the Metal Block, but a well-timed cancelled super jump from below can be used to complete the room much faster. The first Toppin is found to the right of the bottom path next to the Pepperoni Goblin. It's entered from "Ruins of the Pizza Tower" to the left, and the entrance to "This Was Once a Bathroom" is found to the right.

This Was Once a Bathroom

A high room encouraging the player to use two Cheese Block platforms to gain enough height to break a Metal Block from above with a body slam, allowing them to use a super jump to reach the top section, though a super jump to the right of the Metal Block can be just as effective at getting there. This top section has a group of three Cheeseslimes over a bridge of Cheese Blocks. To the right of the top section is a Fake Wall leading to the first secret room, "And This Was My Bedroom". It's entered from "Ruined Exploration" at the bottom left, and the entrance to "Meet the Bomb Goblin" is found at the top left.

Meet the Bomb Goblin

A narrow room introducing two Pizza Box Goblins before the player obtains a key. Another Pizza Box Goblin is found beside a large Pizza Block afterward. It's entered from "This Was Once a Bathroom" to the right, and an entrance to "Ruins of the Pizza Tower" is found to the left.

Boring Ruin

A long hallway with three Cheeseslimes before an Enemy Spawner spawning Pepperoni Goblins within a small pit. To the left is a small vertical section requiring the player to jump across Cheese Block platforms. Beside the Enemy Spawner are long lines of small Breakable Blocks under one-block high ceilings encouraging the player to use a Pepperoni Goblin to kick them through, leading to the second Toppin to the right. It's entered from "Ruins of the Pizza Tower" to the right, and the entrance to "No Tourist Allowed" is found at the top left through a Box of Pizzas. During Pizza Time, the player is forced to take the one-block high path due to some activating John Blocks.

No Tourist Allowed

A large hallway with a Forknight and three Pizza Box Goblins among some small Pizza Blocks and Stairs. The third Toppin can be found in the open on a platform. To the right is a one-block tall Fake Wall leading to the second secret room, "Hidden and Ancient Pizza". It's entered from "Boring Ruin" to the left through a Box of Pizzas, and the entrance to "Roundabout Route" is found to the right through a locked door. During Pizza Time, some Breakable Blocks are spawned.

Roundabout Route

A large room with a narrow vertical path containing three Pizza Box Goblins before a larger section with three Pizzards and some Stairs. To the left is a Fake Wall acting as a Metal Block leading to the third secret room, "Ancient Block Destruction". It's entered from "No Tourist Allowed" to the right through a locked door, and the entrance to "And Who Might You Be?" is found in the middle at the end of the left path through a Box of Pizzas. During Pizza Time, a narrow detour with large Breakable Blocks is created using John Blocks.

And Who Might You Be?

A small room with introducing a Pencer on a bridge of Cheese Blocks over a large Pizza Block. To the right is a dent in the ceiling hinting towards a Fake Wall only breakable by a super jump leading to a door, allowing access to the Tower Secret Treasure in "More Placeholder". It's entered from "Roundabout Route" at the bottom left through a Box of Pizzas, and the entrance to "Very Very Old Cheese" is found at the top left through another Box of Pizzas. During Pizza Time, a few small Breakable Blocks spawn.

Very Very Old Cheese

An extremely long hallway of Cheese Blocks over a cheesy landscape. Three Cheeseslimes, a Forknight, three Pencers, and a Pizza Box Goblin stand on the long path, along with some Pizza Blocks and the fourth Toppin in the open. At the end are two large Breakable Blocks before a Checkpoint. Below the Cheese Block bridge, to the right is a Fake Wall acting as a Metal Block leading to the fourth secret room, "No Cheese Here". It's entered from "And Who Might You Be?" to the left through a Box of Pizzas, and the entrance to "Ancient Gods and PB" is found to the right.

Ancient Gods and PB

A large room with an Enemy Spawner spawning Pizza Box Goblins before the player must descend through some Cheese Blocks beside some currently unbreakable Metal Blocks. The room is entered again through a different entrance, where the player must use some Cheese Block platforms to gain enough speed to break through the previously unbreakable Metal Blocks and make it to Pillar John, triggering Pizza Time. To the right of the Enemy Spawner is a Bomb Block guarding a Fake Wall leading to the fifth secret room, "Dashing Maniac". It's entered from "Very Very Old Cheese" to the left, it's alternately entered from "No Crackers" to the right through a Box of Pizzas, and the entrance to "No Crackers" is found at the bottom through another Box of Pizzas. During Pizza Time, both paths to "No Crackers" are blocked off by John Blocks.

No Crackers

A big room with two Pencers and an Enemy Spawner spawning Pizza Box Goblins. The fifth and final Toppin is practically automatically obtained on arrival as the player falls in. Near the left is a Bomb Block that can be broken by using one of the Pizza Box Goblins from above, allowing the player to super jump through a Fake Wall guarding access to a Box of Pizzas leading to the sixth and final secret room, "Invincible Man of Ball". It's entered from "Ancient Gods and PB" to the left through a Box of Pizzas, and an alternate entrance to "Ancient Gods and PB" is found to the right through another Box of Pizzas.

Secret Rooms + Treasure

And This Was My Bedroom

A small room with a single Giant Pizza. It's entered from "This Was Once a Bathroom" to the left.

Hidden and Ancient Pizza

A small room making the player roll through a line of small Pizza Blocks before collecting a Giant Pizza. It's entered from "No Tourist Allowed" to the left.

Ancient Block Destruction

A large room with three Pizza Box Goblins and four Pizza Blocks among a crowd of large Breakable Blocks. It's entered from "Roundabout Route" to the right.

More Placeholder

The room containing the Tower Secret Treasure of The Ancient Cheese, a can of beans. It's entered from "And Who Might You Be?" to the left through a door.

No Cheese Here

A small room containing a few Toppings and two large Pizza Blocks up a Ladder. It's entered from "Very Very Old Cheese" to the left.

Dashing Maniac

A long hallway full of small Breakable Blocks and Pizza Blocks. It's entered from "Ancient Gods and PB" to the left.

Invincible Man of Ball

A long hallway encouraging the player to use a slope to enter their Ball form, executing nine Forknights in the process. It's entered from "No Crackers" to the left through a Box of Pizzas.

Trivia

  • In the SAGE 2019 Demo, The Ancient Cheese's first rooms use a beta version of "Theatrical Shenanigans", which existed as early as the Earlytestbuild, along with the "Funiculi Funicula". This was presumably a mistake, as the updated version used later was posted onto Mr. Sauceman's SoundCloud and YouTube channel not far from the demo's release.
  • This level is most likely a play on the fact that cheese is a very ancient food, dating back to roughly 1615 BCE.
  • It's the only playable level from the SAGE demo to not get its own holiday-themed level.
