WAR is the nineteenth standard level of Pizza Tower, and the last level before the Pizzaface boss fight and The Crumbling Tower of Pizza, the game's ending level. It is the third level of the fifth floor, Staff Only.
The level has a unique time limit mechanic, with no Pillar John and consequently, no Pizza Time. Instead, WAR has a timer activated soon after starting the level that is constantly active and must be extended through destroying War Terminals found throughout the level.
WAR features three setting themes: a short entrance section set in a bunker, an outdoor section set in an active military battlefield, and an indoor section set in an industrial laboratory overrun by Peppino Clones.
The level's titlecard is set in a battlefield, with a closeup of Peppino's face as he screams in horror. In the background, a grinning Peppino Clone wearing a combat helmet runs away from an explosion and towards Peppino.

Timer
Instead of the Pizza Time mechanic found in most levels, WAR features a timer mechanic unique to itself. Upon the player interacting with the gun crate and obtaining the Shotgun transformation, the level's background music begins and the timer appears on the player's HUD, starting with 40 seconds remaining.
WAR's timer can be extended by destroying War Terminals placed throughout the level. Destroying a War Terminal pauses the timer for roughly a second and adds 30 seconds to the timer while it is paused. If multiple War Terminals are destroyed in quick succession, the pause is extended to allow for all accumulated time to be added at once.
Eight War Terminals are placed throughout the main rooms of the level, extending the timer to 4 minutes and 40 seconds total if all War Terminals are destroyed. Upon entering the Lap 2 portal, the player is placed in a small room containing five War Terminals and a door back to the entrance room, extending the timer by 2 minutes 30 seconds, resulting in a total maximum time of 7 minutes and 10 seconds total if all other War Terminals are destroyed.
When WAR's timer depletes to zero, after roughly a second, the player receives a Time's Up notification and fails the level. Unlike Pizza Time, WAR's timer does not pause in secret rooms, making it possible to fail in secret rooms. The delay between the timer running down to zero and the Time's Up notification makes it so that WAR can be completed with zero seconds remaining on the timer if the player interacts with the exit portal during the delay's timeframe.
The HUD element for WAR's timer is stylized after LED bomb timers commonly found in action and thriller films. The timer beeps for every second passed. A red alarm light on top of the timer flashes if there are ten seconds or less remaining. The timer's numbers are red when counting down and green when time is being added.
In addition to the previously noted differences, WAR's timer lacks some gameplay mechanics found in Pizza Time; the player's score does not deplete over time, and entering the Lap 2 portal does not change the background music to 'The Death That I Deserveoli'.
Collectables
The second Toppin is located in the fourth room, in the player's normal path.
The third Toppin is in an unskippable corridor in the room after the Cheese Toppin.
The fourth Toppin is in the first indoors room, right next to the Stupid Rat at the end of the room.
The final Toppin is in the fourth lab room, to the right of where the player enters the room in plain sight.
Gerome is located very close to the Cheese Toppin, standing on an elevated platform in plain sight. The door to the is visible on the player's path in the lab after the third secret, and is reached most easily by running up the wall with a target block on it.
Secrets
The first secret is in the room after the Tomato Toppin, in plain sight floating above a boost pad that sends the player backwards. In this secret, the player runs through Pizza Soldier armies.
The second secret is similarly placed to the first. It is out in the open above a boost pad in the room after the Sausage Toppin. In this secret, the player outruns Cardboard Tank shots.
The third secret is in the second lab room, visible out in the open directly after the Stupid Rat block. It can easily be reached with a wall run. In this secret, the player deals with a swarm of Peppino Clones.
Chef Tasks
This level has the following Chef Tasks:
Decorated Veteran Don't get hurt more than three times in WAR. |
Sharpshooter Don't miss more than three shots in WAR |
Trip to the Warzone Finish WAR with more than a minute left. |
Trivia
- WAR's main mechanic was completely different earlier in development, with the level originally being on Pizza Time
- Beating this level on the first attempt on any save file grants the player the War Camo outfit.
- The highest possible score in WAR is 24,106.
- This requires maintaining a combo of 95, which means killing every enemy in the level, resulting in 3,206 pizza points, as well as collecting every collectable (which consists of the secret treasure, pizza toppings, clocks, Toppins, big pizza toppings, bells, interacting with 3 of the Pizzasonas, pizza blocks, entering Lap 2, and taunting at the exit door 10 times) that results in 20,900 pizza points, as well as not getting hit throughout the entire level, which deducts 50 pizza points each time Peppino is hit.
- WAR used to be very different in development state:
- In April 2021 build, it used to be longer. The level used to have more enemies, those being Cheeseslime, Swedish Monkey, Mini John, Pepperoni Goblin, Pizza Box Goblin, Flying Anchovy, U.F.Olive, Pineacool, Spit Cheese, Cannon Pizza Goblin, Noise Goblin, Pickle, Pizzard, Olive Trooper, Noisey, Pizza Slug, Shrimp Thug, Ninja Slice, Trash Pan, Piraneapple, Pizza Soldier and Cardboard Tank.
- The level got completely reworked in the Rework build, removing all the enemies above except for Pizza Soldier and Cardboard Tank, as well as introducing the Kentucky Bomber and Peppino Clone enemies. However, the player can't beat the level due to the fact that the exit gate is placed above the ground and there's no ground to stand on.
- It got reworked again in the Eggplant Build, getting closer to its final version; however, the level lacked secrets and the Secret Treasure, along with Gerome.
- Gustavo uses Brick to shoot at random enemies to make it more helpful without needing to defeat them. In the final version, he only appears during specific sections.
